The Salvation Army is a non-profit, charitable organization providing many basic services to persons in need, on a daily, ongoing basis. Some of these services include providing financial aid to those in need for medical, dental, and optical prescriptions; rent or moving; and utilities or fuel. To qualify, recipients must usually be referred by another agency. Some services are provided on a case-by-case basis and as funds permit. Some of the Salvation Army's better-known campaigns include the "Kettle Drive" and "Coats for Kids".

DISASTER SERVICES

The Salvation Army's service in times of disaster are frequently overlooked. A prime example of this service was the relief activities in the Wiregrass Area in the aftermath of Hurricane Opal.

Assistance was given to many people in Coffee County alone. Often, the Salvation Army will dispatch its Mobile Emergency and Disaster Services canteens in response to emergency situations. These units attend to those affected by the event, and minister to workers responding to it, such as police and firefighters. Some of the services provided include registration and identification; the distribution of food, clothing, and supplies; and the dispensation of spiritual counseling.
